Superfinishing of surfaces and edges.
In the production of glass products, special abrasives are used to finish the surfaces and edges, these abrasive tools called superfinishing stones are produced in various grain sizes, the grains that form the abrasive use a ceramic binder to hold the grains and a lubricant such as sulfur which is made to absorb by the piece with a high temperature vacuum treatment.
A sliding film is formed between the abrasive stone and the workpiece.
This has the following advantages:
- Surface finishes’ better quality
- Less wear of the abrasive stone
- Better chip discharge
